Troubleshooting login problems (common cases)
Login failures typically stem from device connection issues, cable faults, OS permission blocks, or outdated Ledger Live / firmware. Follow these steps in order to resolve most problems:
Check your cable and ports
Not all USB cables carry data. Try a different cable and port. On desktops prefer rear ports connected to the motherboard for stable power and data.
Restart and update
Close Ledger Live, disconnect the device, restart your computer, then reconnect. Ensure both Ledger Live and your device firmware are up to date. Ledger Live will usually notify you of recommended updates; perform firmware updates only when you understand the prompts and confirm on-device.
OS permissions
macOS may block kernel extensions or USB access — check System Settings → Security & Privacy. On Linux ensure udev rules are installed so your user can access USB without root. Windows users may need to run the installer as administrator at first install.
Bluetooth pairing issues (Nano X)
If Bluetooth pairing fails, remove old pairings, turn Bluetooth off/on on both the device and phone, and re-pair via Ledger Live. Avoid pairing on public or untrusted networks.
When to contact support
If the device shows unexpected messages, or firmware updates fail in ways you don't understand, contact official Ledger support and avoid random online fixes. Do not share your recovery phrase or PIN with anyone claiming to be support.
Security checklist before you login
- Confirm you are using the official site or app store link.
- Have your recovery phrase stored offline and never type it into software.
- Ensure your host computer is malware-free and updated.
- Verify any firmware/update prompts on the Ledger device screen before approving.
